Newday Album 'Truth' | Review

For the past few years thousands of young people across Newfrontiers join together in a showground in Norfolk to worship and hear from God. This event usually takes place in late July to early August time.

Newday is one of the largest Christian events for young people that takes place in the UK every year. Young people aged right through their teenage years and on into their early 20s join together from churches up and down the UK and Europe to learn about and worship God, camp out together and soak in the summer festival feeling, leaving Newday further along in their relationship with Jesus.

'Truth', the 2018 live album features brand new songs from Simon and Anna Brading, performances from the amazing Newday choir and a guest appearance by friends from Substance Church, Minneapolis.

Be encouraged as you listen in on a new generation declaring "Just one name above them all, Jesus." You'll be joining in before you know it.

The Songs:

There is a great mix of original songs on the album and covers of songs from different churches and bands. Songs such as O Praise the Name and Who You Say I Am have been really popular this year, and for a good reason too as they are full of truth and the Newday band really made them their own with the arrangements they used. This was particularly evident, I thought, on their arrangement of ‘Unstoppable God’, they made the chorus really funky. It is sung by Sharene Ricketts, a new addition to the Newday Band who has an amazing voice and really added something fresh to the band this year.

There were also some great original songs on the album as well such as Almighty sung by Simon Brading. This is one of my personal favourites from the album due to the amazing, truth packed bridge, which has a really uplifting feel! Although this wasn’t an original song but was a remake of a classic hymn, I personally love How Sweet the Name. I love the way they have made a truth packed hymn into something appropriate for a younger audience. Another song that definitely deserves a mention is Born to Love sung by Anna Brading. I love the intimacy painted in the lyrics of this song, especially in the bridge and the live recording really gives a window into the hunger in the room when Anna would have led the song!

The Newday band were also joined by Substance Church, Minneapolis who have a featured song at the end of the album: Here as in Heaven sung by Maxwell Nygren & Nick Foulks which included a rap full of so much passion and truths! The original song ‘Here as in heaven’ was sung by Elevation worship but this version was very impactful for a lot of the young people at Newday, especially with the contemporary feel. That is one of the things that Newday do so well, they lead worship in a way that is so appropriate for so many young people to engage with. The album encourages not only young people to engage in worship once the week is over, but is a helpful resource for churches as they are able to use the songs on a Sunday morning and for anyone on the go or at home if they want to take a moment to focus on God afresh again.

Overall, this album is one full of powerful truths, no matter where you are at with your walk with God, this album will speak to you. The band lead worship so sensitively to the Holy Spirit and the live recordings add something special to each track as you can hear the congregation worshiping alongside the band, giving it a really intimate feel.
