Echoes of Exodus

Echoes of Exodus – Tracing Themes of Redemption Through Scripture

Alastair J. Roberts and Andrew Wilson

"A marvelous book." Peter Leithart - President, Theopolis Institute; Contributing Editor, Touchstone Magazine.

From the Back Cover:

The exodus--the story of God leading his chosen people out of slavery in Egypt--stands as a pivotal event in the Old Testament. But if you listen closely, you will hear echoes of this story of redemption all throughout God's Word.

Using music as a metaphor, the authors point us to the recurring theme of the exodus throughout the entire symphony of Scripture, shedding light on the Bible's unified message of salvation and restoration that is at the heart of God's plan for the world.

Alastair J. Roberts (PhD, Durham University) is one of the participants in the Mere Fidelity podcast and a fellow of Scripture and theology with the Greystone Theological Institute.

Andrew Wilson (PhD, King's College London) is the teaching pastor at King's Church London and a columnist for Christianity Today. He is the author of several books, including Unbreakable and The Life We Never Expected (with his wife, Rachel).

“The blend of rich biblical theology and beautiful writing will stir the affections of all who long for the Promised Land of the new heaven and new earth” Matthew S. Harmon, Professor of New Testament Studies, Grace College and Theological Seminary

“This is what biblical theology should look like. Seminary professors, preachers, Bible study leaders, and others are going to love Echoes of Exodus”. Mark Jones, Teaching Elder, Faith Vancouver Presbyterian Church

Amazon Reviews

Previous review of three stars was a bit harsh. This is a slimmer book than I had imagined but it is well conceived. I like the way that the idea of echoes (made so popular by Richard B Hays) is explored by looking back at Genesis and then stretching all the way to Revelation. I appreciate the concept of the musical reading of Scripture, which makes a lot of sense of the recurring Exodus theme in Scripture. My favourite section is the one on Ruth, which nicely teases out many rich biblical connections that might not be obvious at first sight. My favourite line is on the gospels: "The life of Jesus is an exodus, hidden in plain sight". This little book could launch many a helpful sermon series; the review and thought questions make this a useful resource for personal or group study. John Wood – 1 April 2018  Accessed: 12/02/2020

I cannot say enough amazing things about this book! I love tracing themes throughout all of Scripture, and while I had already seen the exodus as a major theme, I was blown away by the details and insights shown in this short book. Mind-blowing. I also appreciate that it was very readable. You don't have to be a Bible scholar to grasp the beautifully interwoven structure and design of the repeated exodus theme from start to finish. Exquisite! Hawkins – 25 December 2018  Accessed: 12/02/2020
