Families Matter - New Book

A Christian Primer for the 21st Century

Nick Priggis (Hope Church, Shrewsbury) has recently published a book which provides a starting point for Christians to look more deeply into evaluating the post-modern secular world view of family and seeks to offer something far better to a watching world.

There is a crisis in the post-modern family. The impact of this crisis is everywhere. The number of divided households where divorce has become the norm is only eclipsed by the growing number of co-habiting partners less cohesive than those who commit through marriage. Single headed households where fathers are absent cause children to suffer economically but more damagingly emotionally and psychologically. Chronic insecurity leads to questions of personhood and identity paranoia. The answer to these problems lies in the rediscovery of the orthodox teaching of Christ and the Church in relation to the family.

Nick Priggis traces the nature of the present malaise by demonstrating the drift from the orthodox experience of the family. From seeking to know how and why we have come to this he then applies the age-old wisdom of an orthodox Christian blue-print for the family and gives examples of how the church provides transformative love and care to those who have been damaged by the secular world view of the post-modern Western age. The response of the church is a replication of the Heavenly Father’s love towards His children by providing unconditional love, purpose and deep seated security. This book provides a starting point for Christians to look more deeply into evaluating the post-modern secular world view of the family and seeks to offer something far better to a watching world.

Amazon Review
A scholarly, well researched appraisal of 21st century society and it's failings within the context of the family. The overriding conclusion being that only a return to fundamental Christian principles as stated in scripture will provide the answers. A clear commission to the church to return to its roots in a compassionate caring manner in supporting those who see a need for change is stated.
A book that will benefit all those in church leadership in helping their congregation to live in the good of strict adherence to the lifestyle fundamental to those who seek to please God in their daily lives. - D Coulton
