Newday - Serving Stories

I’ve been along to Newday to help with our young people from Teesside a number of times in the past, however this year was the first time I’ve been a volunteer on the ONE team (the team of hundreds of volunteers that make the event happen).

I was helping to steward the various gatherings which for my team meant the 12-14s in the mornings, followed by a seminar and then the main evening sessions. It was something I had not done before however the team leaders were excellent in giving us all the training, support and direction we needed.

It was great to make friends with other volunteers from right across the UK, as we served the young people together. We would gather every morning for our briefing, which would begin with worship and prayer. It really did feel like we were a team of friends that loved Jesus as we served together.

Being in the 12-14s came with its risks though and one morning, I and few other stewards were the unfortunate by-standers of a game which involved two youth leaders being pelted with tomatoes, eggs and flour! Yet each morning and evening, being able to see many young people passionately worshipping, praying for one another and hundreds responding to the gospel for the first time, made the week well worth it!

I would highly recommend serving on the ONE team at Newday. There are plenty of different teams to help on and whilst at times during the week it will be tiring, that will be far outweighed by the joy of helping thousands of young people to encounter Jesus!
