In Memory of George Verwer

George Verwer the American Evangelist and founder of Operation Mobilisation (OM) died in April 2023 aged 84. He is survived by his wife, Drena and their three children.

George was born in Wycoff, New Jersey in 1938, at the age of 16 he made a personal commitment to Christ at a Billy Graham event in New York and soon after began sharing his faith with others. He attended the Moody Bible Institute and Maryville College and was married to Drena in 1960.

In 1961, George and Drena founded OM in Spain with the aim to mobilise Christians to share their faith with the unreached people of the world. OM has grown into an international movement with over 10,000 staff and now works into over 100 countries.

Verwer was a passionate advocate of radical discipleship, giving up everything to follow Jesus, selling his own possessions to fund travel to share the gospel. He also believed that all christians should be involved in missions both home and abroad. He wrote several books on a variety of themes including The Revolution of Love, Messiology and Out of the Comfort Zone.

Verwer was a tireless worker for the Kingdom of God, and has had a profound impact on the lives of countless people. A true pioneer in the field of world missions and his legacy will continue to inspire Christians for generations to come.
