The Task of Testifying in Times of Trial

“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the good news (euangelion) of God’s grace”.
Acts 20 v24.

On several occasions in recent weeks I have been confronted by the harsh reality of the fragility of human life, and by the shock and trauma that comes with such confrontations.

These recent, tragic events have brought back memories of the death of my son James, 22 years ago, when I remember, one morning in hospital, “brooding” over the words of Paul to the Ephesians elders in Acts Chapter 20. It was an important “brood” that substantially directed my life going forward.

The Bible is very clear that we will experience trials and setbacks, pain, suffering and loss in this life. Paul’s story, like all of ours, confirms the reality of these things.

However, Paul was fueled with an intense desire to fulfill the work that God had called him to ….. the task of testifying to the good news (euangelion). Paul considered his life worth nothing unless he used it to accomplish the work God had given him.

Paul rejoiced in sharing the glorious good news of the wonderful grace of God, and he was not going to let the trials and the setbacks hold him back ….. the single most important goal in Paul’s life was to tell others about Jesus Christ (Philippians 3 v7-13).

Like Paul, when confronted with tough stuff, I grieve, but I also start to think about the task of telling others the good news while there is still time for me and for them ….. I think about completing the work, about finishing the race………

In our day, God is looking for men and women who will focus on this one great task. In ChristCentral Churches in the UK, God is looking to raise up more Evangelists to equip His church for the great task of evangelism (Ephesians 4 v11-14).

Are you one of them?
Do you know someone who might be?
The task of testifying in times of trial…….. it’s a great calling!

Is a project of ChristCentral Churches UK with the aim of raising up Evangelists and equipping churches for evangelism
