Next Generation Prayer Update

Christ Central - Next Generation Prayer
Last year I had a 5-month sabbatical from being a staff volunteer at Gateway church Leeds. I had more time to PLOT: Pray-Listen-Observe-Think.

I prayed, what can this young-at-heart older lady do? What can our generation do? I listened to Martin Charlesworth and others re The Sexual Revolution. I observed what was happening to our nation’s teenagers - the unhelpful values being taught in schools, identity confusion, and the almost weekly stabbings and shootings being reported. I started thinking it’s time to pray and intercede for upcoming generations.

WHY?
I once heard a preacher describe life as a long corridor with some doors open either side and quite a few doors were locked. Now all doors are open, and anything goes! Life is even more confusing for our youngsters than it was for us baby boomers!

Our children are dying on our streets, the number of teenagers who have taken their own lives is increasing, many are trying to access mental health services, including primary school children.

Many celebrities are sharing their mental health struggles and campaigning for better services for all. Some are writing songs about their struggles. Celebs sharing their struggles will help many - temporarily perhaps. We have the ultimate eternal life-saving answer!

WHO?
Who has time to pray? Most Christ Central churches have some folk 55+ years old. I would like to invite our older folk to enlist in a prayer army for our children/grandchildren. Can we raise up an army of intercessors to pray regularly for our teenagers/students? Can we believe for our God to raise up a generation of Jim & Elizabeth Elliots? Hudson Taylors? Brother Andrews? Can we set our youngsters free from captivity and all that the enemy is throwing at them full pelt. Are we prepared to stand in the gap for the next generations?

HOW?
We have already started praying together on zoom once a month. We had a great time praying for a 9-year-old who was giving a 10-minute gospel presentation to his class that very morning! We're also praying for those struggling with lonliness and mental health issues starteling statitics suggest that 1in6 young people have mental health challenges. We're living with a prophetic picture of the edges of a torn cloth where threads were being knitted together. There was a sense that as we pray across generations, that this would lead to the binding up of broken hearts.
